A shallow-water depositional interpretation for the upper Miocene Chagres Formation (Caribbean coast of Panama)

چکیده

The upper Miocene Chagres Formation, cropping out along the Caribbean coast of Panama, has been previously interpreted as record last deep-water connection between and Pacific oceans based on bodyfossil paleodepth estimates. We test this interpretation by presenting an integrated ichnological sedimentological analysis eight coastal localities Formation (Toro Limestone Sandstone members). Toro Member accumulated under fully marine conditions in a mixed carbonate siliciclastic shelf above storm wave base. Fluctuating high-moderate energy modulated combination tides high currents likely led to sparse bioturbation sediments, corresponding archetypal Cruziana ichnofacies assemblage. Bioturbation, dominated Thalassinoides Ophiomorpha isp., increases overlying corresponds proximal expression ichnofacies. was deposited within lower shoreface-upper offshore transition zone with low sedimentation rates combined storm, wave, tidal influence, includes fossils sediments continental origin suggesting proximity river mouth. Our results suggest that shallow waters, contrasting proposed accumulation, are consistent deposition tectonically stable platform northern Canal Basin at apex Panama orocline.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Comparison of IKONOS and QuickBird images for mapping mangrove species on the Caribbean coast of Panama

Mangrove stands of differing species composition are hard to distinguish in conventional, coarse resolution satellite images. The new generation of meter-level satellite imagery provides a unique opportunity to achieve this goal. In this study, an IKONOS Geo bundle image and a QuickBird Standard bundle image were acquired for a study area located at Punta Galeta on the Caribbean coast of Panama...

Relationship Between Depositional Facies and Reservoir Characteristics of the Oligo-Miocene Asmari Formation, Aghajari Oilfield, SW Iran

The present study focuses on facies analysis and the reservoir characteristics of the Asmari Formation in the Aghajari oilfield (located in the Zagros fold-thrust belt, southwest Iran), and how they are linked to depositional environments and reservoir characteristics. This formation consists of about 380 m carbonates with some siliciclastic intercalations. Based on the integration of 1200 m of...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
